FIH RULE UPDATES (implented in Scotland from 1st September 2006 – these rules are in force NOW) as confirmed by the SIH and SHU
Stick Bow
How the rule limiting the bow of the stick to 25mm will be enforced in Scotland will be discussed at the SHU National Coaching and Umpiring Seminar at Inverclyde on 8-10 September (details on SHU website).Hopefully with two year’s notice players will have discarded sticks with extreme bows and relearned drag flick skills. It will certainly make it easier in club and school competitions if it is self policed rather than requiring umpires to do stick checks at all matches. Implementation date in Scotland - 1 September 2006 – now in force in Scotland Players Equipment Field players will be permitted to wear a smooth transparent face mask which fits flush with the face, a soft protective helmet or eye protection in the form of plastic goggles (i.e. goggles with a soft-covered frame and plastic lenses) throughout a match only for medical reasons. When defending a penalty corner and for the duration of that penalty corner only as defined in the Rules of Hockey, field players will be permitted to wear a smooth transparent face mask which fits flush with the face.Field players are not permitted to wear protective headgear in any other circumstances.
