We have invited to join HELP on their annual Goat’s Gallup race in the Lammermuir Hills this Sunday, 23rd November.
Race starts at 11 a.m. from Longyester.
Some helpful pointers on what lays in store………
‘The distance is disputed but probably under 10 miles. What I would describe as multi-terrain really. Part of this run forms part of the Carfraemill to Gifford - when we come down hill on to the flat and you pass a handful of cottages on your right - that's Longyester, the start and finish point for the Goat's Gallop. In other words, you head up that hill, but go off across the heather, rather than following the obvious path you use coming from Carfraemill. There's usually markers up there and maybe a marshal or two to make sure everyone heads in the right direction. There is a steep descent through the heather into a valley - first time round that looks pretty nasty, it just appears too sheer a drop, but once you've got over the panic....... Still think last year I should have taken a heavy-duty black bag to use to slide down the hill (shame the heather would probably make that a non-starter). It then goes on to a road past a reservoir, continuing on road back to Longyester.’
The cross country at Broxburn on Saturday should be a good warm up.
