My training goes in fits and starts. In October I had made a sound regular effort, though not at a high frequency. I felt I might have built up some energy to put in a good race again, the last time being in February this year at Prestonpans.
Well fed and watered, I resolved on starting off with a steady pace and finding my energy progressively. Last time I had started with a quick pace at the start and had struggled through.

Mary Poppins would've been in with a good shout for this race, and anyone with a kite would've been in with a fighting chance too. It was a bit windy.
I signed up for this half-marathon a while back to keep me motivated (otherwise I just sit on the couch and watch telly). I'd heard it was (relatively) flat and had read good reports about it so thought I'd give it a bash.
The was my first official Cross Country race and it was with a mixture of excitement and trepidation that I made the trip over to Livingston on Saturday. Gordon had very kindly offered me a lift and we arrived nice and early and got set up in the field near the start. The Musselburgh tent was to prove a great success although was a challenge to get setup in the windy conditions (and without the help of written instructions). The Senior means race was last on the card so we had plenty of time to watch the other races while trying to keep warm as the conditions were a little on the blustery side.
The 2008/2009 senior championship got off to a very windy start today. 5 Musselburgh athletes braved the windy conditions to compete over a multi terrain course that winds its way out of Dunbar before making the long gradual ascent up Doon hill. Normally it would be a total relief to reach the top of the hill but the 90 degree turn at the top turned you right into a fierce wind which all but cancelled out the effect of gravity.
Musselburgh and District Athletic Club celebrated another successful year at their annual awards ceremony on Wednesday evening. The athletes both junior and senior received their certificates and - for the hardworking few - their trophies for the year.
Councillor Andy Forrest presented the prizes to this year’s trophy winners who were from left to right; Simon Archer (boys junior champion), Gordon Eadie (The Ian Steedman Club Championship Trophy), Mhairi Howard (Chairperson’s Cup), Councillor Andy Forrest, Kristy Purves (The James Furnell Memorial Trophy for girls champion), Neil White (Handicap Race Cup), Audrey Grigg (ladies champion).
