The first running of the East Lothian 5k was a nicely low key affair, with just six runners, four from MDAC, one from HELP and one from Dunbar . The race was being held as part of the East Lothian Championship which until now had been the sole preserve of the junior athletes. This year a more ‘senior’ field lined up for the 5k with Alex Oliver on his fortieth birthday, the baby of the pack. Roger set us off with a ready steady go and off we trotted / jogged or ran. The course was a simple out and back along the old railway track path to Whitecraig. At the turn, Alex was just out in front, a lead he held to the end. A mention for Mike Howard who finished in a very commendable fourth place in his very first 5k. Results: 1. Alex Oliver (MDAC) 19 mins 21sec 2. Steve Pattison (DRC) 19 mins 48 sec 3. Sandy Wallace (HELP) 20 mins 18 secs 4. Mike Howard (MDAC) 21mins 53 secs 5. Gordon Eadie (MDAC) 21 mins 59 secs 6. Tony Segall (MDAC) 22 mins 07 secs Gordon
